Inspired by Five Minute Friday’s weekly prompt CANCEL https://fiveminutefriday.com/2020/11/12/fmf-writing-prompt-link-up-cancel/ here’s a poem:

Cancel concerts

Cancel cuddles

Cancel contact face to face

Cancel plans

Cancel parties

Cancel trips to distant place

Maintain prayer

And maintain worship

In personal or online space

Maintain care

And maintain kindness

Let love leave its golden trace

Practise faith

And practise patience

God’s not forgotten His human race

  1. They want another lockdown,
    and say it cannot fail
if they transform each burgh and town
    into an open gaol
    whose furtive fearful inmates
scurry on their tasks, then home
to hide behind locked doors and gates
    like whipped and beaten gnomes.
They say they have our lives at heart,
    but I don’t think this is true;
as they rip our world apart,
    they’ll substitute the new
    policies for this fell hour
that serve to reinforce their power.

    • Who knows why our governments are making their decisions Andrew and when? Personally I wish England had done it sooner and maybe the figures would be lower.
But none of it is easy, most especially for those who are alone and clinically vulnerable.

  2. To be honest we had barely ventured out since lockdown one my son is vulnerable and it just didn’t feel safe. The lockdown I can handle but the conspiracy theories and those that still are denying Covid. I am praying for it all to come to some kind of end some kind of safety so that we can begin to enjoy life together as a family and the fear knotted in my stomach has go.

    • Just so hard for those who are vulnerable. And as for those who say “It’s just like flu. What’s the fuss?” or “Do you actually know anyone who’s died of it?”, I could tear my hair out.
May God grant you peace x

  3. Liz,
I love your beautiful accent and your poetry is spot on. πŸ™‚ Thank you for visiting me this week!
Maintain prayer and maintain worship. Yes! “The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord.” (Job…)

  4. I love the progression here. You identify the things that could throw us off our game and then remind us how to prevent it. Sorry you’re on lockdown again. We start in Michigan tomorrow with new restrictions.

    • Thank you Suzette.
It’s not as strict as the first lockdown and frankly, what price human lives? Plus we’re better prepared this time round – no supermarkets running out of toilet roll thank goodness!
May our and your restrictions lead to health and hope in the long rum
